DECATUR, IL (August 16, 2019) – The Grain Handling Safety Coalition (GHSC) is excited to announce a partnership with the feature film SILO at the Farm Progress Show, August 27-29, 2019 in Decatur, Illinois to raise awareness about farm safety in a unique combination of cinema and education. Visitors to the joint exhibit #2174 will have a one-time only FPS experience.

“The partnership with SILO presents us with a new opportunity to reach audiences. The movie provides entertainment, a way to engage the audience and spark conversation about farm safety”, explains Dr. Aherin, Agricultural Safety Program Leader at the University of Illinois and GHSC Board Member. An educational adventure awaits exhibit visitors where they can participate in hands-on activities; watch grain bin rescue demonstrations by the Illinois Fire Service Institute; take part in targeted panel discussions; learn about safety strategies; and pick up free resources.

From education to cinema, visitors are urged to take a break and relax in the air conditioned tent while watching an exclusive trailer of the SILO movie. They can find out how to have a SILO film screening in their community as well as meet the film’s cast on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“GHSC and SILO have a shared purpose; to assist farmers in these challenging times. The Grain Handling Safety Coalition’s unique approach to farm safety helps save lives and we hope our film can support their efforts in doing so, said Sam Goldberg, SILO producer.

The GHSC and SILO offer an opportunity to talk about challenges relevant to today’s farm operation with panel discussions at FPS. Tuesday and Wednesday panels are 11:15 AM, 12:45 PM, and 2:15 PM covering Grain Bin Rescue, Farmer Insight on Safety, The Pressures of Generational (Legacy) Farming and Young Workers on the Farm.
